Old Horsie – Belgian-Style Tripel with Almonds

Old Horsie brings together two distinct traditions — the heritage of Belgian Trappist brewing and the rich culinary legacy of the Algarve.

Inspired by classic Tripel recipes, this strong Belgian-style pale ale is both expressive and refined. It presents a bright golden colour with a complex malt profile, offering layers of subtle sweetness, gentle spice, and a smooth, warming body.

Its defining character comes from the addition of locally sourced almonds from the Guadiana Valley. Carefully roasted, they introduce a delicate nutty sweetness and soft toasted notes, reminiscent of traditional Portuguese almond desserts, while maintaining balance and elegance.

Brewed with a thoughtfully selected combination of malts and fermented with a classic Belgian yeast strain, Old Horsie develops a nuanced aromatic profile. Hops are added in stages to provide a restrained bitterness and a refined, noble aroma, allowing the almond character to integrate seamlessly into the beer’s structure.

Developed in collaboration with Velho Cavalinho Taberna Medieval, this beer reflects a shared passion for tradition, craftsmanship, and local ingredients.

Rich, distinctive, and memorable, Old Horsie is a modern interpretation of a historic style — crafted for those who appreciate complexity with balance.
